Texarkana, Ark (KTAL / KMSS) – The country’s largest non-profit barrel race is underway and is the largest year ever.
More than 3,000 athletes from 30 states participate in this year’s event in Texarkana, Arkansas. The annual competition benefits the Runnin’WJ Ranch, which provides therapeutic horseback riding for children with special needs. “This is not about us, but about sharing the awareness of the special needs community with our family. And that’s what these barrel racers feel. They are part of a large family. That’s what Sam Clem, executive director of Runnin’W J Ranch, said.
According to the organizers, another 600 riders will be attending this year and the prize money will exceed $ 250,000. “It’s night now. We’re running 24 hours a day, which makes a lot of sense for the rider and for the ranch,” said volunteer Rebecca Moore.
The annual event takes place on weekends at the Four State Fairgrounds.
