Texarkana, Texas (KTAL / KMSS) – Members of the Texarkana, Texas City Council are discussing the possibility of approving rules permitting the establishment of a red-light district in downtown Texarkana on the Texas side of the Texas border.

“Arkansas has already enforced this ordinance, and we’re trying to match it on the Texas side so that people can enjoy downtown on either side of the state border,” said a Texarkana spokesperson. Official Lisa Thompson said.
Council is considering Amendment of city regulations on alcoholic beverages To provide an open container for alcoholic beverages in the district during times not yet prohibited by existing ordinances governing long-term consumption:

From 2:15 am to 7:00 am on other days

“This district is most often in line with the Art and Historic District of Downtown, Perosita, Texar Canal Regional Arts Center, Art Park, Cress Gap, Ace of Clubhouse, Pecan Point, Silver Moon on Broad. However, according to the proposed ordinance, the Bistate Justice Center is not included.
“City officials will evaluate the need for additional trash cans and waste removal schedules in downtown, as the creation of this downtown recreational area could generate more waste,” the ordinance said. ..
The proposed ordinance prohibits the use of glass containers for liquids on public roads, sidewalks, or alleys and is consistent with existing noise ordinances already in the book.
The council will vote at the next meeting on June 7.
