Texarkana, Arkansas (KTAL / KMSS) – Children return to school in a few weeks. The United Way of Greater Texer Kana needs community support for school supplies for the “Stuff the Bus” campaign.
This is United Way’s 12th annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign. The goal is to send the students back to the prepared school.
Jennifer Lewis, co-chair of the campaign, said the school will start about two weeks before this year and will take less time to prepare.
“This year, kids go back to school full-time, and we want to make sure that the extra stress and strain on our parents doesn’t have to be dealt with on top of everything else,” Lewis says. I did.
According to United Way, it costs about $ 20,000 to pack about 1,900 backpacks. Lewis says each bag is worth about $ 10.50.
“By ordering items in bulk rather than donating them, we were able to pack more backpacks at a lower cost.”
Lewis says donations aren’t as high as they want. The best way to keep everyone safe during this pandemic and still reach your goals is to accept donations only.
“We haven’t completely escaped from COVID yet. We’re all like living that way because we all want to be. But on the hills of a very difficult year. , There are still many unemployed or unemployed parents. “
All backpacks are delivered to 15 schools in the Texarkana area. United Way says you need to contact your school counselor if your child needs supplies. The district will receive an additional backpack.
