Texarkana, Arkansas (KTAL / KMSS) – University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana has begun construction of a new $ 4 million facility on the Texarkana campus.
UAHT began construction on Thursday at a facility of approximately 15,000 square feet. The facility will house welding programs, a secondary education technology education center, and the Arkansas High School Academy. As students grow, the campus says this will help their program.
“One of the things we are finding is that we are growing especially with high school students. We have two very successful programs, the University Academy and the Career and Technical Education Center, and we also want to expand our welding program. “There is,” said Dr. Christine Holt, President of UAHT.
The Career Center provides participating high school juniors and seniors with a unique opportunity to earn college credits for free while in high school. This curriculum acts as an extension of the high school curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience in a variety of career areas such as industrial maintenance, welding, coding, CNA and EMT.
The new facility should be opened for students in 2023.
