Portland, Oregon (KOIN) — On days when most people are feasting, a group of Portlandians get together to help reduce Thanksgiving calories early and fight food insecurity in fitness. rice field.
“It costs only $ 10 to make 30 meals for the Oregon Food Bank family,” said Eric Plevin, general manager of Fulcrum Fitness. “We were trying to reach our goal of $ 2,000 this year, but this morning we will reach our goal of $ 5,000.”
This year, the organizers have allowed remote options for those who prefer to exercise at home while making money.
Participants were given the option to walk or run the stairs at Mount Tabor Park or make a suggested donation for jogging a 5k turkey trot.
“This is the perfect time for people to get out there and make healthy moves before the holiday season,” Plevin said. “It’s really important to get people together, go outdoors and work in a healthy and fun way.”
Previn said funding to help local families in need has become more important than ever.
“We are really excited to be here to raise money for families in need,” Previn said. “We know that one in nine Oregon people is facing food insecurity, so what we can do to help put food on the table for those who need it. Is a big win for everyone. ”
