Caregiver is a unique series focused on caregiving challenges and victories. These stories are AARP And WordInBlack.
Stacy Jones, who lives in Stone Mountain, is a 7-year-old grandmother. Their age ranges from 1 to 12 years. Jones’ youngest daughter and her three children now live with her. Jones said, ” [provide] For all of them. “
Since Jones was a single mother of children, she helps her youngest daughter as much as possible to reduce the burden of raising children alone.
“I raised my kids knowing they were always there for them. I was a single mother, so I always tried to do everything I could for my kids,” Jones said. Said.
Jones attributed his close bond with his youngest grandson to those who live with her. She said she loves to be able to see them every day and feels sad whenever she goes without seeing them.
One of her favorite ways to spend time with her grandchildren is to watch Disney movies with them. She also loves spending Christmas with them because they can decorate the Christmas tree together.
Jones first became a grandmother at the age of 40. She was introduced to her grandmother at a relatively young age, but she was excited about her previous trip.
Jones heard the baby cry while taking a shower one day before receiving the news that the child was expecting the child for the first time. She saw it as a sign that the baby was approaching.
Her two oldest grandchildren live in Augusta, Georgia. She shares a close bond with them because she grew up part of her life, even though she was far away.
That’s why I don’t think Jones is so different from being a parent.
“I’m still teaching, loving, training and growing,” Jones said. “The only difference right now is that you can send them home! I definitely think of myself as their parents.”
Her other two grandchildren are not as close to her as she wants. They live in different states and are not always easy to see on a regular basis. Jones believes that being close makes it easier for her to connect with them, so she wants to be able to get closer to them.
Regardless of distance, Jones imitates his grandparents and models his role as a grandmother. She is trying to influence the lives of her grandchildren with the same wisdom and knowledge that her grandparents have influenced her.
“My dad was in and out of my life, so his parents stepped in and helped my mother, so I was really indispensable,” Jones said. .. “My grandmother on the mother’s side was everyone’s mother.”
Jones’ grandparents taught her “the good, the bad, the ugly of life.” She tries to do the same for her grandchildren.
Being a grandparent made Jones very happy at this stage of her life.
“I see children as an extension of my life,” Jones said. “I really love being a parent and grandparents.”
