Fresno, CA (KFSN)-A year later, 85 acres of West Fresno along Cornelia Ave will be equipped with 30,000 solar panels, Fresno’s largest 10-megawatt solar farm to date.

“This is a perfect example of how the green economy can thrive in Fresno and the Central Valley,” said Fresno City Council member Miguel Arias.

According to Arias, most agricultural options on the city-owned land were limited to alfalfa or cotton. Hundreds of acres in the immediate vicinity of the Fresno Clovis wastewater treatment facility cannot grow consumer products directly.

With a $ 20 million investment by Fresno Community Solar Developers, the property now has a new purpose.

“Historically, the city of Fresno leased the land for agricultural purposes for $ 250 a month,” Arias said. “The PV company will pay $ 1,000 a month for the next 40 years.”

This project will be of great value to some Fresno Electric customers, especially qualified people. PG & E CARE program.

“More than $ 1 million for people living in these underprivileged areas,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer.

Low income is one of the qualifications to register for CARE. For a home of one or two people, this means that your household income is less than $ 34,480. It’s less than $ 52,400 for a four-person household.

“Anyone who enrolls in the CARE program through PG & E has the benefit of an additional 20% reduction in electricity bills,” said Arias.

The project also creates about 50 jobs. According to Dyer, these workers will be hired locally and undergo solar installation training.

“In our area, it’s one of the fastest growing job development processes we can have in our community,” Dier said.

This is a project where local leaders create a bright future in one or more ways.
