Bonner Springs, Kansas (KCTV) –Dari Dine, a bustling burger shop just off Highway 7, finally lit the grill on Tuesday.
The restaurant began offering burgers and shakes in the 1950s and has been attracting patrons for decades.
Kelly Hefton was one of the many who appeared at lunch on the last day of the diner. He said he has been eating there at least once a week since the 1980s.
“They make the best burgers in town,” he said. “D–n breakfast is good”
Hefton was fine after finishing his meal, putting another familiar face into the room and shooting a breeze.
“It’s like a family here,” he said.
The head of the family is Sarah Kindred, who has been running a restaurant for nearly 25 years.
“I made a lot of good friends here, “Kindred said.
Kindred learned in May that the owner of the building would sell it this summer.
The new owner, a real estate company, will use it as an office space.
“The Dali dinner is over,” Kindred said.
She said the new location would be out of reach for the business, especially due to another struggle facing Kindred.
“I was diagnosed with cancer two weeks before I knew this, she explained, “I started chemotherapy last month.”
No matter what happens next, Kindred said he was grateful to his customers.
“People leave it as it is,” Kindred said. “I have a lot of memories here.”
