Florence, South Carolina (WBTW) – DIY Place is open to the public today. A place where people of all ages can go to make memories through craft projects. The property is located on 157 W Evans Street in downtown Florence. This is the first DIY place in Florence. Here, staff provide materials and stencils to teach customers how to carry out a project.
Owners Cornelio and Aimee Monjarrez say they’ve always wanted to do a craft business downtown.
“We have a large array. From small ornaments for small children to dreamcatchers to the American flag, the stars are made from bullet casings and door pouch signs made of wood. So we definitely have an array and some metal projects, “says Cornelio Monjarrez.
Les Echols, director of the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce and Industry Community and Minority Enterprises, said the business, in the midst of a pandemic, is demonstrating growth in the region.
“Recovery is underway and hopefully we can move in the right direction. We know that 44% of companies represent our national economy, so we We want locals and SMEs to survive and thrive, “says Echols.
The location of “Do It Yourself” is 5500 square feet. It allows staff and customers to practice social distance as they allow the tables to be placed 8 feet apart. Her customer, Angel Porter, is from Florence and she says she’s finally happy to have a place where she can make something herself.
“I think it’s great that they’re starting a business where people can make their own customs, like the ones we specially made,” says Porter.
No reservation is required for admission. Open Tuesday to Friday from 3pm to 9pm and Saturday from 11am to 9pm.
