1 dead, 4 missing after man falls into sea off Alaska
The Coast Guard launched a search Sunday after five people on a charter boat fell into the water off the coast of Alaska, officials said.
One body was recovered, but authorities said on Monday that the search for the remaining four people was ongoing. The missing persons were last seen on Sunday afternoon near Sitka, a city near Juneau.
“There are too many unknowns at this time, but we appreciate the coordination efforts of several municipal agencies, including the Sitka Fire Department and Good Samaritan ships on the ground,” said Commander Lt. Trevor Rayman. “We are working fast to find missing persons.”
The Coast Guard launched a search after receiving a call from Kingfisher Charters about an overdue charter, officials said. The boat was found partially submerged near Low Island.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the dead or missing.
