The largest mile-wide asteroid to date in 2022 will fly safely by Earth

A one-mile-wide asteroid that passed through the Earth on Friday (May 27) at a distance of about 10 times the space between the Earth and the Moon.

The asteroidKnown as Asteroid 7335 (1989 JA)Is about four times the size of the Empire State Building and is the largest ever to pass through our planet in 2022. Viewers were able to watch the event live online through the Virtual Telescope project (you can see the feed embedded below). To new collaborations including telescopes in Chile, Australia and Rome.
