Savannah, Georgia — The death trial of Amado Arbury begins in October. Judge Timothy Walmsley announced on Friday that the jury selection will begin on October 18.
Arbury was killed on February 23, 2020 when he went for a run near Brunswick, Georgia. Prosecutors say father and sons Gregory and Travis McMichael chased a 25-year-old black man in the neighborhood before shooting him deadly.
McMichael said Arbury was suspected of being a thief and was shot in an attempt to grab Travis McMichael’s gun.
The two have been acquitted of malicious intent and felony murder, counting the number of assault exacerbations, imprisonment, and attempted imprisonment crimes.
A video of the incident was shared publicly last year after Arbury’s death. It was recorded by William “Rody” Brian Jr., who joined McMichael in pursuit and allegedly hit Arbury on his truck.
Brian pleaded not guilty to committing imprisonment and felony murder.
Just last week, a federal prosecutor filed a hate crime and attempted to kidnap all three defendants.
