Wichita, Kansas (KSNW) – The Way to Work, a summer program that teaches children’s job preparation skills, is rekindling their summer program. Children range from 14 to 17 years old.
“Here in Wichita, we are always trying to connect with young people,” said Na’shell Williams, Program Manager, The Way to Work. “We truly believe that if we connect young people with mentors, connect young people with different opportunities, and provide different positive environments, we can literally connect them to do great things in the future. . ”
Williams said he plans to hire 174 students during the summer. She also states that she is considering partnering with 46 more companies to assist students in teaching.
“We need a job,” she said. “We want to put all the youth in place and make sure they have a great opportunity to connect, inspire and empower them to do great things in our community this summer. I am. ”
Each student works approximately 20 to 25 hours a week. According to Williams, the city of Wichita provides a base salary for each student participating in the program. Employers only provide the opportunity to work. “This gives young people the opportunity to earn and save their money,” Williams added.
She says 107 students completed the program last year and each received a laptop as a gift.
