Nelsonville’s 20-year-old Miranda Spencer was sentenced to 90 days in prison after pleading guilty to obstructing public affairs, a misdemeanor, on Tuesday. She was initially charged with a felony of obstruction of justice in Victoria Schaefer’s death on September 2, 2019 in Hocking Hills State Park.

Schaefer, 44, a 44-year-old married mother of four, was taking a picture at the foot of the stairs in an old man’s cave when he was struck by a log. Jordan Buckley and Jayden Churchheus, then 16 years old, admitted to pushing a 74-pound (33-kilogram) log off a cliff above the stairs.

The prosecution said Spencer, who was in the park with two boys and another teenage girl, did not notify authorities of the incident. She was indicted in October 2020.
Both Churchheus and Buckley have been found guilty of manslaughter and are currently serving a three-year term at the Juvenile Training School.
