Thirty-three Louisiana high school seniors earn National Merit scholarships | Education – New Orleans, Louisiana

An additional 33 high school students in Louisiana (all but three from southern states) have received scholarships as part of the 66th National Merit Scholarship Program.

These latest winners, announced Wednesday, will join the 11 winners announced on April 21st. More winners will be announced on June 2nd and July 12th.

The New Orleans region, including the North Shore, has 16 scholarship winners in the final batch, almost half. There are five winners each in the Baton Rouge and Acadiana regions, two in the Lake Charles region, and one of the winners is from Tibodo. Shreveport was home to three winners from northern Louisiana.

The scholarship announced on Wednesday is a flat rate of $ 2,500 and is funded by the organizers of the National Merit Scholarship Program, with one exception.

Counting the winners of both rounds announced so far, the high schools receiving the most National Merit scholarships are Ben Franklin High School in New Orleans, Caddo Parish Magnet in Shreveport, and Baton Rouge Magnet in Baton Rouge. It’s high school. They all have four winners each.

The winners of South Louisiana in the latest batch are:

Baton Rouge: Anna C. Eagleton, St. Joseph Academy; Alex C. Nelson, Episcopal High; Ju-Woo Nho, Baton Rouge Magnet; and Shamitha Thumma, Baton Rouge Magnet.

COVINGTON: Benjamin M. Brothers, St. Paul’s School; Megan A. Drain, Mandeville High; Davis Ashton Lagarde, St. Paul’s School; and Arden A. Perry, St. Scholastica Academy.

Gretna: Jackson J. Cheramie, New Orleans G-Sit High.
