Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (WBTW) – The second round of Stimulation Fund included a COVID-19 emergency grant that provided financial relief to thousands of local college students.

Students at Holly Georgetown Technical College are trying to recover academically and financially from a pandemic.

Critt Gore, a local HGTC college student, has been at HGTC for three consecutive semesters and is working towards a transfer to USC.

During the pandemic, Gore had to quit his job, and says he had had a lot of financial pressure with the school so far.

“I was very nervous about two weeks ago, but suddenly I got an email. With $ 900 in the account, everything was relieved and I went back to school without worrying about my finances,” Gore said. Mr. says.

Horry Georgetown Technical College has received a $ 2.6 million grant from students.

As the Ministry of Education makes qualifications more flexible, this round will allow more students to receive funding compared to the first round, according to university president Marilyn Fore.

“I don’t know of any students who aren’t struggling in any way just with the financial stress of experiencing a pandemic,” said President Fore.

Students are unemployed or incur extra costs as a result of a pandemic.

Whether it’s personal needs such as petrol, course supplies, food, or childcare, President Fore said students need this help.

“This grant comforted me for the rest of the semester,” Gore said.

All students enrolled in at least one course are eligible for financial grants.

“Under any circumstances, students in the state are eligible to receive these funds. It doesn’t matter if they have taken one, two, three, or four courses. All students Is stressed by the financial problems associated with the pandemic, so the money is there to help you, “said President Fore.

There are two categories in which students receive funding: federal pel recipients and non-pel recipients.

Pell recipients receive $ 900 and unqualified Pell recipients receive $ 400.

The university will notify students about the grant through their student account.

The HGTC said the Stimulation Fund is available to students enrolled in any semester this semester. According to President Fore, students are still eligible to receive funding even if they register in February or the coming March.
