Boston (WHDH)-The Dorchester family is trying to understand that they lost their home for 30 years in a fire last week.
“I can’t imagine this happening to my family,” said Jenny Nguyen. “My parents lived in the house for 29 years. I grew up there and grew up here. It’s painful to see this — for them, this is their house.”
Nguyen’s three-story house on Leedsville Street burned down on Saturday. Nguyen said she received the news and hurried to her old house.
“I ran in and called him” mom, mom. ” I never thought they were alive, are they okay? “Nguyen said. “And as soon as I saw them sitting over there, I was relieved, but I was very sad.”
According to Nguyen, her family came to the United States 29 years ago in search of a better life after the Vietnam War. She said her fire was particularly hard for her mother.
“To her, this feels like another big loss after we left the country and brought nothing,” Nguyen said, adding that the family wanted to stay in Dochester. “We are looking for a place where they will come back here. They want to join the Vietnamese community.”
But she is pleased that everyone has accomplished it from a safe fire.
“I told them, you know, we can buy back things, your health, your life is more important to us,” Nguyen said.
