(CNN) — Pay attention to a bite of metal before you put in your favorite frozen treat.
According to the FDA, recalls have been issued for more than 11,000 containers of Weis Markets ice cream products that may be contaminated with metal equipment parts.
“The product may be contaminated with foreign matter, especially parts of metal filling equipment,” the company added in a news release, adding that foreign matter could be a risk of suffocation.
The recall covers 10,869 units of Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream 48 oz containers, and 502 3 gallon bulk containers of Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream.
According to the company, there is one customer report of finding “intact metal equipment” in a carton of 48 ounces of cookies and cream.
The 48-ounce container was sold at all 197 Weis Markets grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and West Virginia. According to the company, these are currently excluded from sale.
This product is due for sale on October 21, 2020 and is located at the bottom of the container. Customers who purchase the product can return it for a full refund.
The 3-gallon Klein vanilla bulk ice cream was not for retail sale. According to the company, it was sold to a retail store in New York and removed.
According to the company, additional ice cream products packed on the same day as the recalled products were stored in a warehouse and were not distributed.
