NS. LOUIS (KMOV.com)-A group of local volunteers need the help of the community to ensure that tens of thousands of American heroes fall during this holiday season.

Each year, Wreaths Across America volunteers place thousands of holiday wreaths in the tombs of Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Last year, COVID-19 limited the number of volunteers who could go out at one time. The number of wreath sponsors has also decreased, bringing the total to just over 15,000.

“Two years ago, our number was 27,000. [wreaths] Approximately, it’s pretty low. “

The wreath sponsor is $ 15, and you can place the wreath somewhere in a particular grave or graveyard.Visit here to sponsor a wreath Website..

Al Baker has volunteered to lay out thousands of garlands for the past five years. For him, work is personal.

“We all graduated from high school and went to war,” he said. “Some of us are back, and some of us haven’t come back, but many of them have never been able to meet again.”

Remember that Marine veteran Baker dedicates a wreath to each of his deceased friend’s graves.

“In Vietnam, there is no funeral over there … you had to suck it up and move on, you don’t have that opportunity to mourn their loss,” he said. “One of your men has been killed, so the war will not stop.”

Despite the need for more sponsorship of the wreath, Schulte said all volunteer slots were filled. The wreath will be served from 8 am to 3:30 pm on December 18th.
