Thousands Preparing For IRONMAN Tulsa – Tulsa, Oklahoma

Tulsa, Oklahoma 2021-05-30 06:36:28 –

It’s less than a month before Iron Man’s first race in Tulsa.

Thousands of athletes are preparing for a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike takeoff, and a marathon here in Green Country. Athletes will cross the finish line here on Guthrie Green on May 23, but much is happening behind the scenes to make this day a success.

Tulsa native Noel Mulkey has completed the last few weeks of training for his first Ironman race in his hometown.

“I’ve been training for more than 20 to 30 hours a week for this. I ride 4-5 bikes a week, swim nearly 6 days a week, and run 5-6 days a week,” says Mulkey. He says.

Marquee details the training process on TikTok, giving him the opportunity to race twice in 2020 after Iron Man Tulsa was postponed to 2021.

“I’ve been waiting for a long time and now I feel a little pressured. I think everyone is frustrated. I think everyone in all Facebook groups is very excited. “Marquee said.

The May 23 race begins with a 2.4-mile swim at Keystone Lake in Keystone State Park. Athletes then ride their bikes to the Creek, Osage, and Tulsa counties on a 112-mile bike. Then unload your bike at OSU Tulsa, run a marathon on the riverside and finish at Guthrie Green.

“This city is working very well for our athletes to enjoy,” said Scott Langen, Regional Director of Iron Man.

According to the organizers, due to the pandemic, this is an athlete-only experience, so only athletes and volunteers are allowed to enter the course area, but volunteers are always required.

“There are so many jobs, all with donations to charities, so if you have a group you can join, we can donate to your charity and grow your community even bigger. “I will,” Langen said.

The Ironman Race in Tulsa has 75 qualifying spots for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
