Tulsa-Green County, Oklahoma celebrated Easter Sunday in a big way this year.
The three Northern Tulsa Churches, the Metropolitan Baptist Church, the Friendship Church, and the New Jerusalem Baptist Church have partnered to host one large outdoor Easter Sunday service.
In 2020, the majority of churches had to cancel their direct Easter Sunday rally due to a pandemic.
But this year, Easter Sunday in Green Country was much more hopeful.
Jasmine Geiger of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church told 2 Works for You:
Guthrie Green became a place of worship on Sunday morning. The lawn chairs have been transformed into pews and the stage has been transformed into an altar. Three congregations have come together as a group to celebrate Easter Sunday.
“It would be a great idea if I and Jarrell could bring together all our churches, all the contingencies, uplift our community and, of course, celebrate Christ our Savior. I thought, “said Alex Geiger. ..
For the Metropolitan Baptist Church, this was also the first face-to-face service in over a year.
The Guthrie Green green space allowed the congregation to meet in person safely with ample room for social distance.
“It would be a great experience just to see us all get together and worship on Easter Sunday,” said Samiko Chilton of the Metropolitan Baptist Church.
After the pandemic tested the beliefs of many, they were ready to meet again in person.
“Worshiping online was a great experience, but being able to do it directly is a completely different experience,” said Aleisha Webber.
“Of course, we are celebrating the life of Jesus Christ, but we are also celebrating the fact that God kept His Church alive,” said Alex Geiger.
The Metropolitan Baptist Church hopes to slowly reopen its doors for small group worship later this spring.
