Los Angeles (AP) —Tiger Woods was seriously injured when his SUV fell on Tuesday and lay down in the suburbs of Los Angeles, officials said. A golf superstar had to pull it out of the windshield, and his agent said he had leg surgery.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, when the SUV crashed shortly before 7:15 am, Woods was alone and no other car was involved. A county fire department spokesman, Christopher Thomas, said he was wary of firefighters breaking open the windshield and kicking him out.
The image shows an SUV on the side of the road near the hillside, with a severely damaged front end. According to officials, an ambulance took a 45-year-old child to the hospital.
“Tiger Woods suffered multiple leg injuries in a car accident in California this morning,” said manager Marc Steinberg. “He is currently undergoing surgery. Thank you for your privacy and support.”
The cause of the wreck was not clear. The two-lane road turns into the upscale suburbs of Los Angeles, and the northbound side where Woods was driving plunges enough signs to warn trucks to use low-speed gear. The speed limit is 45 mph.
Rancho Palos Verdes community councilor Barbara Ferraro said the road on which Woods crashed wasn’t as winding as the other sections, but on a steep, gravel runaway truck lane in front of the next traffic light. Said not too far from.
“It’s easy to speed up,” Ferraro said. “Even if you’re not speeding up, you can speed up if you’re not actually braking.”
Woods was in Los Angeles over the weekend as a Genesis Invitational tournament host at the Riviera Country Club. So he announced the trophy on Sunday. He is supposed to shoot with Discovery-owned GOLF TV on Monday and Tuesday, and he supports him. A tweet on Monday showed that Woods in a cart was smiling at comedian David Spade.
According to the Golf Digest, also owned by Discovery, the television shoot was a course lesson for celebrities such as Spades and Dwyane Wade at the Rolling Hills Country Club.
Woods, a 15-time major champion who shares a record of 82 career wins with Sam Snead, has recovered from hip surgery on December 23. This is his fifth back surgery, the first since the lower spine was fused in April 2017, and a remarkable comeback that won his fifth Masters title in 2019.
He has been in the sport since winning a record Masters victory at the age of 21 in 1997. He has won the most prolific rate in modern PGA Tour history. He was solely responsible for the surge in television ratings, which led to a huge increase in prizes during his career. Even at the age of 45, he continues to be the biggest draw in the sport.
The SUV he was driving on Tuesday had a tournament logo on the side door, indicating that it was a courtesy car for Genesis Invitational players. Tournament director Mike Antolini did not respond immediately to the text message, but it is not uncommon for players to hold a shuttle car a few days after the event.
Woods was afraid that he would never play until 2017 Fusion Surgery. He returned to the Tour Championship to conclude the 2018 season and won his fifth Masters in April 2019.
He finally played at the PNC Championship on December 20th in Orlando, Florida. This is an informal event where players pair with their parents or children. He is now playing with his 12-year-old son Charlie. Woods also has a 13-year-old daughter.
During a Sunday television broadcast on CBS from a golf tournament, Woods was asked about playing the Masters from April 8th to 11th and said, “God, I hope so.” He said he felt a bit stiff and did another test to see if he was ready for further activity.
He didn’t know when to play again.
Players such as Mike Tyson and Magic Johnson were hoping Woods would recover quickly.
“I have a stomachache,” said Justin Thomas, the world’s third-largest golf player, at the Workday Championships in Bradenton, Florida. “It’s painful to see one of my close friends in an accident. Man, I hope he’s okay.”
The crew used a crane to lift the damaged SUV from a brush on the hillside. The vehicle was placed upright on the street and a sheriff investigator inspected it and took a picture. It was then loaded onto a flatbed truck and carried away on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the third time Woods has been involved in a car survey. The most notorious was in the early morning after Thanksgiving in 2009, when his SUV ran over a fire hydrant and hit a tree. It was the beginning of a shocking revelation that he was fooling multiple women and his wife. Woods lost a major corporate sponsor, went to a rehab clinic in Mississippi, and didn’t return to golf for five months.
In May 2017, Florida police found him sleeping behind the steering wheel of an awkwardly parked car on the side of the road. He was arrested on charges of drunk driving and later stated that he had an unexpected reaction to prescription drugs due to back pain. Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and checked in to the clinic for prescription drugs and help with sleep disorders.
Woods hasn’t won since the Zozo Championship in Japan in the fall of 2019 and has been reducing his play schedule in recent years due to injury. Tuesday’s surgery will be his tenth. He underwent four surgeries on his left knee, including a major reconstruction and five back surgeries after winning the 2008 US Open.
Ferguson reported from Jacksonville, Florida.
