Children need to be vaccinated, telling authorities Thursday, to Covid-19, the top adviser to the Food and Drug Administration on children’s vaccines.
Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital Vaccine Education Center and FDA adviser, said: “They can suffer, be hospitalized, and sometimes die.”
He said 300 children had died in Covid so far.
Ofit, a voting member of the Authority’s Vaccine and Related Biopharmaceutical Advisory Board, was discussing the use of the Covid-19 vaccine in 6-month-old children during a panel meeting.
“We have mutants that are becoming more contagious, which means we need higher levels of herd immunity for years, if not decades,” said Ofit. He also said that even if there have been no cases of polio since the 1970s, we still vaccinate children with polio every year.
Nearly 4 million children have tested positive for Covid since the outbreak of the pandemic, according to data from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Data show that last week more than 16,000 new cases were reported in children, the lowest since June 2020.In a state report, AAP wrote that less than 1% of all children’s Covid cases died. “I think winter is coming. You’ll really see how well we’re doing in terms of artificial immunity,” Ofitt said. “I think the idea that children don’t need to be vaccinated in the future is wrong.”
