Oakland, California 2020-11-22 11:00:00 –
Perfect for these socially distant times, Auckland’s new outdoor waterfront living room opened in Brooklyn Basin on Wednesday.
Township Commons Park was created from the ruins of a shipping terminal on 9th Avenue, built in 1930, and designed by Auckland-based Einwiller Kühl Landscape Architecture. Liz Einwiller, Sarah Kuehl and his team publicize the once devastated industrial waterfront while preserving key existing features such as a historic terminal front facing east, a huge metal truss, and a triangular skeleton. Succeeded in turning it into an outdoor space-the westernmost shaped termination.
Several retail stores have opened on the left side of the 20000 sq ft terminal building, including the Rockies Market, the Rockies Market kitchen with outdoor dining, and California canoeing and kayaking.
The one-acre wooden deck on the pier is dotted with oversized bright yellow wooden chaise lounges and benches, creating a promenade-like atmosphere. Developers plan to install public art in the future. The park also provides a connection to the Bay Trail.

Auckland-based Signature Development Group is at the forefront of the Brooklyn Basin Master Plan in partnership with Beijing-based Zarsion Holdings Group.
“Parks and public spaces are more important than ever, and we’re excited to offer a new outdoor space for Aucklanders to enjoy,” said Michael Ghielmetti, President and Founder of Signature.
The 4 1/2 acres of public space are the first in the early stages of 65 acres of development and include several different styles of marina and dwellings, including apartments, townhouses, lofts and condominiums. Two high-rise towers and a 32-acre park along Auckland Estuely are also planned.
“Township Commons is at the heart of the newly growing Brooklyn Basin district and offers beautiful new community amenities. This space is a small gathering, performances by local musicians and artists, And is designed to accommodate other community activities that we plan to deliver at a safe time, Ghielmetti said.
