Nashville, TN (WSMV) – They are planning when TPAC and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra will once again allow a live audience.

They partner with HCA Healthcare and its Tristar Health affiliates to support safe returns.

News4 talked to people waiting to see the performance in person again.

“It’s worth being there for a variety of reasons,” said Professor Norman Tolk of Vanderbilt University.

Professor Tolk and his wife are enjoying the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

“It’s generally accepted and I teach physics that it has the best acoustics of any American symphony,” said Professor Tolk.

Performances with live audiences have been suspended since the pandemic struck Nashville almost a year ago.

“It’s hard to believe,” said Jennifer Turner, President and Chief Executive Officer of TPAC.

Turner remembers the day the tornado passed through Nashville.

“We had to conclude the performance of Jesus Christ Superstar, so when we were thinking about tornadoes, COVID occurred shortly after that cleanup effort,” Turner said.

Turner said the last show with the audience was March 13thth last year’s.

“The feeling of that live theater, I think people are very excited to get back to it,” Turner said.

Part of the plan will include providing access to PPE and expeditious testing of performers, patrons, and staff members.

The partnership also examines each space to see if physical changes need to be made to protect everyone.

For Tolk, he is ready to hear the live performance again from the symphony.

“There is no substitute for the environment or atmosphere, all of which contributes to the ritual of going to the symphony,” said Professor Tolk.

It is hoped that Symphony and TPAC will be safely resumed this fall.
