Travers’ first community library was open to the public on Saturday.
“Walking here helped me put this together,” said student Alize Gutierrez.
Gutierrez says it’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since they started working for their library.
“It took a lot of effort, effort, bloody sweat and tears,” Gutierrez added.
A group of junior high school students and local volunteers have worked hard to make that happen.
“We started things slowly but surely in the summer,” explained Dr. Elizabeth Rodriguez. “We started things here and there, but that was a much bigger question mark.”
They wanted to open the library in June 2020, but had to put those plans on the shelves for a pandemic.
“The world has been closed and everything has stopped,” Rodriguez added.
When they got a green light, they started working again.
“We went in, put the books on the shelves, started decorating, and started doing it all,” Rodriguez said.
Now they want the entire community to take advantage of this opportunity.
“They can come, check books, access the internet and do what they need,” said Aida Lashing, Executive Secretary of the Kingsburg Community Assistance Program. “What they may not be able to do if they do not have that access at home.”
The library is located at 3957 Kitchner Dr. 93672.
Their daylight saving time is from Tuesday to Thursday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
Their fall time is from 2 pm to 5 pm Tuesday to Thursday.
