Colorado Springs, Colorado 2021-05-05 15:39:34 –

During the pandemic, many people installed gym equipment at home. Those who have a treadmill should be aware of the dangers these machines pose to both careless animals and children.

Peloton announced on Wednesday the voluntary recall of both treadmill machines due to safety concerns.

The recall will affect approximately 125,000 Tread + machines and approximately 1,050 Tread products in the United States.

The decision is that the Consumer Product Safety Commission will stop using the Peloton Tread Mill for parents after 70 injuries involving injured children, including a 3-year-old child suffering from severe brain damage. It was done after issuing an urgent warning. Another case of injury and death of a child.

According to the CPSC, in many of these cases the child is trapped, secured and pulled under the product’s rear rollers.

Robert S, acting chair of the CPSC. Adler has issued the following statement:

“We are pleased that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Peloton have reached an agreement to protect users of Peloton Tread + and Tread products. With the agreement approved by the Commission this morning, Peloton will sell both. Distribution should be stopped immediately. US Tread + and Tread products will refund the full purchase price to consumers wishing to return the tread mill. The agreement between CPSC and Peloton has been fierce for weeks. It is the result of negotiations and efforts, leading to a cooperation agreement that I believe will be useful. Best interests of Peloton and consumers. They have made tireless efforts to protect consumers and warn the general public. Thanks to the CPSC technical staff. Today we have taken steps to prevent further harm from these two products. “

The announcement marked a major reversal of Peloton’s first reaction and came after weeks of discussions with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

John Foley, CEO of Peloton, made the following statement:

The decision to recall both products was right for Peloton members and their families. To be clear, Peloton made a mistake in the first response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request to recall Tread +. We should have been more productive with them from the beginning. Therefore, we apologize for the inconvenience. Today’s announcement reflects the recognition that working closely with the CPSC can raise member safety awareness. We strongly believe in the future of At Home Connected Fitness and are working with CPSC to set new industry safety standards for treadmills. We have the desire and responsibility to be an industry leader in product safety. “

Some data on treadmill hazards reveal that safety concerns extend beyond Peloton machines.

In 2019, 22,500 treadmill-related injuries were treated in the US emergency room, of which about 2,000 were children under the age of eight. From 2018 to 2020, there were 17 treadmill-related deaths, the youngest being only 5 years old.

If you have a treadmill at home, CPSC suggests that you fix the machine, remove the safety key, and do your best to keep the machine away from potentially injured animals and children.
