Detroit (AP) — A federal judge in Detroit is considering whether to order monetary penalties and other sanctions on some of the lawyers of former President Donald Trump.
At a hearing on Monday, Judge Linda Parker spent hours delving into the details of the unsuccessful proceedings that challenged the University of Michigan’s 2020 election results.
The proceedings alleging fraud were withdrawn after Parker did not find evidence that Trump’s vote was somehow destroyed or given to Joe Biden.
Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and the city of Detroit now want to face the consequences of what lawyers pursue what they call frivolous claims.
The judge did not make an immediate decision.
Lawyers include Trump’s lawyers, Sidney Powell in Dallas and L. Lynn Wood in Atlanta.
At the hearing, Powell and Wood reportedly took a different approach as they faced scrutiny. Powell said he was fully responsible for the complaints filed in Michigan, but Wood said he hadn’t read the paperwork before the complaint was filed. NPR report..
After the hearing, Wood posted a “video snippet” of proceedings on social media. Forbes.. A document drafted on Thursday states that Michigan law prohibits the broadcasting of judicial proceedings.
The judge is giving Wood until Thursday, July 22 to show why he should not be disciplined for posting the video.
