Tucson restaurant struggles to hire staff as business picks up – Tucson, Arizona

Tucson, Arizona 2021-05-28 08:53:35 –

Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — Broadway Wings Has been in Tucson for 14 years and has many loyal customers.

“We go out and eat out more. This is one of our favorite places,” said customer Jacob Jackson.

Jackson isn’t the only one choosing to eat more these days, but sadly his favorite place is having a hard time catching up.

“There’s a lot we can do with more employees,” said JJ Esquibel, owner of Wings Over Broadway.

Wings Over Broadway recently decided to reduce its business hours and close Monday altogether. Social distance signs are still posted on the table. According to Esquibel, this is because there aren’t enough staff to fill a house.

“I don’t want to stress my employees or kill them from overwork. This was the hardest part,” says Esquibel.

Esquibel said he worked hard to hire new staff, but was less interested.

“I think people are happy with the unemployment benefits they receive. To get the same amount of money they get from unemployment, employees need to earn $ 15 an hour and work essentially full-time. “Esquibel said.

Arizona will do Disqualified from federal unemployment insurance July 10, 2021. Esquibel hopes that time will turn around. By then, he has one request from the customer.

“Be patient not only with ourselves, but with other restaurants and other businesses. Increase your time to eat out. Know that the people working here are doing their best.” Said Esquibel.
