Tulsa, Oklahoma — After a year of delay and uncertainty, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be officially held.

The opening ceremony gave the Tulsa Global Alliance a reason to celebrate.

“I think it’s really great to get together after a year, not only as a Tulsa community, but also as a global community,” said Tarasepurveda, an intern at the Tulsa Global Alliance.

The group cheered on Tulsa swimmer Patrick Callan at the opening ceremony of the NEFF Brewing Olympics in downtown Tulsa. They also support four athletes from Tulsa’s sister city.

Bob Breather, Vice President of Programming at the Tulsa Global Alliance, said: “There are also swimmers from Amiens in France and San Luis Potosí in Mexico. A rugby player from Zelenograd, Russia. And a runner from Israel who won the 2018 Tiberias Marathon.”

Nonprofits aim to build a global community in Tulsa. The pandemic has stopped many of its activities and visits from international friends, but now it is finally finding a way to get together again.

“A lot is happening in the world. There are many negative views from all directions, especially in the news and life. So whenever you look at oOympics together as a community at a world event, it’s a competition. But it’s a friendly competition. “
