Tulsa, Oklahoma — The “Rise and Remember” commemorative ceremony for the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial at ONEOK Field in downtown Tulsa was canceled on Monday.
The Centennial Commission has issued the following statement:
Due to the unexpected situation of entertainers and speakers, the 100th Anniversary Committee was unable to meet our high expectations for the commemorative event on Monday afternoon and decided not to proceed with the event at this time. I would like to change my schedule later in this 100th anniversary. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to those who have a ticket. Rescheduled ticket owners will be notified first.
The Commission said it would continue to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Pass to Hope at 5:21 pm on Friday at Greenwood and I-244.
We will also be hosting a candlelight vigil on Monday at 10:30 pm at Greenwood and Archer.
The Commission will hold a limited preview opening of the Greenwood Rising History Center next week, with its grand opening on July 3rd.
