Tucson (KVOA)-During a meeting of the Tucson Unified School District Board, parents were allowed to submit comments expressing concerns about the COVID-19 protocol within the school district. The mask wearing policy has not been discussed, but the Board has provided the latest information on the Tucson Unified Virtual Academy.

District officials said that as of October 21, 2,239 students from kindergarten to high school were still enrolled in virtual learning, and 167 students had decided to return to face-to-face learning. Dr. Gabriel Trujillo expects a lot of movement when children start vaccination and said families are likely to have the opportunity to switch from virtual learning to direct learning from January.

Another topic of discussion was transportation within the district. According to officials, there are currently 14 people in the hiring process to become drivers, and 17 are currently training. The district said that at any time additional drivers would be on the road to transport the students.

They look forward to incorporating new routes for students as new drivers will come in the coming weeks.
