TUV SUD Announces Support for New UK REACH Regulation

TÜV SÜD, a German company that provides companies with safety, security and sustainable solutions, has announced that it will support the new registration process and chemical regulations established by the UK after Brexit. As a result, notification and registration of chemicals under EU REACH will no longer apply in the United Kingdom.

After October 28, 2021, chemicals imported into the UK in excess of 1 ton per year must be registered in accordance with the new UK REACH. “This applies unless there is a Downstream User Import Notice (DUIN),” said Rupert Scherer, a REACH expert at TÜV SÜD.

DUIN corresponds to the previous pre-registration procedure in EU REACH, which was a requirement to take advantage of the transition period.

If the recipient of the chemical does not process the DUIN and registration directly in the UK, the exporter must appoint the only agent (OR) located in the UK to control the process. This appointment must be made by October 27, 2021, TÜV SÜD said in a media release.

“Our international network allows us to support the exporter registration process in the best possible way,” added Rupert Scheller.

The Glasgow branch of TÜV SÜD Limited will take over the role of OR in the UK, and German manufacturers and / or exporters will be supported by TÜV SÜD’s local REACH experts.

REACH (or Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Chemical Restriction) is an EU regulation that covers most consumer products and requires businesses to report on chemicals used throughout the supply chain and in their products. It is mandatory.
