Two of Darwin’s famous notebooks are missing, including a sketch of the iconic “Tree of Life”

According to the Cambridge University Library in the United Kingdom, a thief may have stolen two Charles Darwin notebooks. Among them is a sketch of his iconic 1837 “Tree of Life”.

These books were last seen in the fall of 2000 and were taken for a photo shoot from the very safe Special Collection Strong Room at the University of Cambridge Library. However, during a regular inspection in January 2001, the curator discovered that there was no small blue box holding the book. The box may have been misplaced, but the library is considering the possibility that the box was stolen, as a thorough search over the years did not yield any results.
