Two people were sent to the hospital on Wednesday night after a fire broke out in a building in southeastern Washington, DC.

Two people were sent to the hospital on Wednesday night after a fire broke out in a building in southeastern Washington, DC.

It occurred around 7:30 pm near the intersection of Congress Heights and Southeast 13th Street.

According to DC Fire and EMS, the fire started on the third floor of the apartment. The first responders transported a seriously injured man and a seriously injured but non-life-threatening injured woman.

Firefighters have extinguished most of the fire and continue to work in hotspots.

Flame investigation is ongoing.
