US Congressman Mark Green (R-TN-07) asked Martin about Fort Campbell, a US Army facility on the Kentucky-Tennessee border. According to Green, 85 percent of Fort Campbell is in the Tennessee Parliamentary District.

“A significant portion of those individuals live in my district, and that’s important to me [with] The 101st Airborne Division, the 160th Special Forces Group, “said Green.

“Looking at the budget, we don’t see any significant savings in these units and their installation. We want to make sure that Fort Campbell does not have significant savings in this budget.”

Martin said he was unaware of the significant reductions. Green quoted Fort Campbell’s “Strategic Footprint and Its Airfield Size and Its Deployability” and said it appreciated it.

Green also told Martin about a serious issue, especially with regard to Fort Campbell’s barracks within the 1st Brigade.

“Type. They kick out the army. They clean it. Put them back. Mold reappears. It’s time for those barracks to go. We put it at the top of the list. Keep pushing. The Pentagon keeps pushing it to the bottom of the list, “Green told Martin.

“I would like to have a personal interest for me. That would be important. Those barracks need to be replaced.”

Martin told Green that he and other officials would investigate the barracks to see what they could do to help.
