UC Merced to Open Inquiry Over Professor’s ‘Repugnant’ Tweets – Fresno, California

Fresno, California 2020-12-30 17:59:30 –

The Prime Minister of the University of California, Merced is seeking an investigation into a professor who allegedly tweeted an anti-Semitic message.

“We must not let anti-Semitism or any form of prejudice or hatred of groups take root in the UC Merced community,” Prime Minister Juan Sanchez Munoz said in a message posted on the school’s website. ..

Last week, Northern California Jewish News reported on a social media post by engineering professor Abbas Garsemi, featuring images of the site identified as anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli.

One image was a diagram labeled “Zionist Brain” that included areas such as “World Domination Robe”, “Holocaust Memory Center”, and “Racism”.

Zionists are supporters of Israel as a Jewish state.

Another image of Ghassemi’s Twitter account since it was deleted showed blood bleeding from the Star of David, an image of the Israeli flag.

Mr. Munoz criticized the tweet as “disgusting and disgusting,” and said the university would take further action.

“We have conducted a survey of Deans and Deans in collaboration with the Vice-President’s Office on possible violations of our standards, the UC Code of Conduct, or other policies of the University, and what I asked him to decide if it would result, which is appropriate, “Muñoz said.

Jewish group sends letter to school

StandWithUs, a Los Angeles-based organization whose goal is to fight anti-Semitism, sent a letter to UC Merced on Monday urging an investigation.

“The question here is not whether Gassemi has a constitutional right to make anti-Semitic comments, of course he does,” wrote Rothstein and others, CEO of StandWithUs. The letter said.

“The problem is that Gassemi makes these comments publicly on Twitter. He admits he’s a professor at UC Merced, and attributed dislikes and racist conspiracy theories to anyone. Responsible for educating what to do. Gassemi’s discriminatory remarks are terrible for campus-protected minorities, professors who appear to be responsible for teaching and rating Jewish and Israeli students. ” Said the letter.

Website calls Gassemi

This week, the website StopAntisemitism.org accused Ghasemmi of being “anti-Semitic of the week” in a Twitter post.

The post called for his withdrawal from education.
