Cleveland (WJW) — University hospital On Wednesday, FOX8 News confirmed that it had suspended kidney transplant surgery for two weeks after announcing it earlier this summer. The patient received a kidney for another person..

“This was an important update on the next step in the widespread response to the unfortunate error that occurred in the kidney program in July,” UH said in a statement.

UH said the suspension of kidney transplant surgery would allow hospitals to “completely implement protocols and processes that improve the quality of care.”

According to the university hospital, no kidney transplants were planned for 14 days, so this suspension is not expected to significantly delay patient care.

“We fully understand how important a kidney transplant program is to the community. The actions we take are based on over 50 years of transplant experience and over 3,000 kidney transplants. We look forward to resuming the full transplant procedure within the next two weeks. “

In July, UH announced that the transplant recipient had obtained a kidney for another patient.

At the time of its announcement, UH said it was kidney-compatible and patients were recovering as expected while other patients were delayed in transplantation.
