Sacramento (CBS13) – A man with late dementia returns with his family after a 48-hour intense search in Sacramento County.
John Torgerson, 71, went missing Wednesday afternoon at 2200 blocks on the Garden Highway near Discovery Park. His sister, Sarah Lauret, gave up hope until she received a call from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office that he was found to be healthy and safe.
“I cried, cried, cried, then went out and talked to my husband, and we immediately started calling my family,” Rowlett told CBS13. “I couldn’t believe it. I cried. I’m beyond happiness.”
Torgarson has a history of wandering due to Alzheimer’s disease. Sometimes he doesn’t even remember his family or where he lives.
Pat Beer, Executive Director Elk Grove Senior Center, Know the stress after wandering the members.
“My feeling was that we now have to solve this problem. Some people are at risk,” Beer said.
The Senior Center has a support group for Alzheimer’s disease that provides resources and advice to keep families safe.
“The police station has a Project Lifesaver that allows you to actually band and track someone, and then ping your device,” Beal said.
The· Alzheimer’s Association We also recommend a door sensor mat that sounds an alarm, a warning bell to signal when the door opens, and a doorknob safety cover.
The Torgersons are on the lookout for their loved ones. They look at the monitoring bracelet, but are worried he might remove it. For now, they are happy to be back together again.
“I’ve never been so happy to meet my brother John,” Lauret said.
