Colorado Springs, Colorado — The US Air Force Academy confirmed that an airman was killed in a car accident at I-25 on Sunday morning.
According to the Colorado Patrol (CSP), the 2015 Jeep Wrangler was heading north on Colorado 25, near milepoint 152.6, as it descended the grass embankment from its right shoulder. The Jeep began to move north on the grass embankment, eventually colliding its front with the sides of the metal guardrail. This caused the jeep to tip over and land on a concrete base.
A 23-year-old female driver was sentenced to death on the scene.
In a press release, the Air Force Academy confirmed that the driver was an active Air Force soldier assigned to the Academy. Her name will be published 24 hours after the last notification to her close relatives.
According to the Academy, its first respondent has a long-standing memorandum of understanding to respond to emergencies in the I-25 area alongside the Academy’s property.
CSP is still under investigation.
