Aurora has fascinated people for years, but until now no one could explain the cause.

Physicist at the University of Iowa Announced They proved that a phenomenon known as the Alfven wave produces electrons accelerated toward the Earth, and particles produce light.

Physicists say they used “specially designed equipment” to shoot Alffen waves into a 20-meter-long chamber and measure electrons accelerated by an electric field.

“These specific electrons undergo resonance acceleration due to the electric field of the wave, which is the same as the surfer catching the wave and continuously accelerating as the surfer travels along the wave.” The physicist says.

This idea of electrons “surfing” in an electric field was first introduced in 1946 by Russian physicist Lev Landau. Later known as Landau Damping, CNN report.
