In a brief secret meeting with the Board on Friday, the University of Texas approved the move to the Southeastern Conference in 2025.
Board members of the University of Oklahoma also met on Friday in hopes of approving the transition from the Big 12.
Board Chair Kevin Ertife issued a statement following the meeting in Austin, revealing that the Longhorns movement program will not end the current meeting until the existing contract expires. ..
“Our board met today to discuss the ever-changing landscape of college athletics and the invitation from the Southeastern Conference to the University of Texas at Austin,” Eltife said. “Recognizing the impact this has on our athletics program, the Board unanimously voted to approve the reorganization of this conference at the expiration of the current agreement with the Big 12.”
This move could come sooner, according to reports, as other prominent programs in the conference are trying to reorganize with other leagues. For example, Kansas and Iowa are linked to Big Ten.
In the minutes of Thursday, the SEC’s president and prime minister unanimously voted to invite Oklahoma and Texas to members in 2025.
