Albuquerque, New Mexico (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico has installed terrestrial mobile radios to help law enforcement agencies communicate better within the building. The university states that after a fire broke out at the Zimmerman Library in 2006, law enforcement agencies were unable to contact some of the buildings, including the basement.
The system modifies it to prevent the first responder from becoming vulnerable in dangerous situations. Mark Reynolds of the UNMIT division said:
They found extra money from the museum to install the new system. At the moment, it is installed only in the art building and is scheduled to start operation in July or August. They hope that 10 buildings will eventually be equipped with terrestrial mobile radios.
