Carson City (AP) — Workers in states enrolled in the Nevada Civil Service Medical Program will be charged up to $ 55 per month if not vaccinated.
The Nevada Civil Service Benefits Program Committee voted Thursday to impose an additional fee on unvaccinated workers to offset the medical costs of those who have not been fired.
The additional fee will fund the tests that unvaccinated workers need to undergo.
Laura Rich, executive officer of the benefits program, said Nevada is the first in the United States to impose premiums on unvaccinated state workers.
Nevada estimates that approximately 5,000 state workers are not vaccinated and hopes that this policy will convince more people to be vaccinated.
