Washington football coach Nick Lorovich revealed on Wednesday that he had chosen not to get the COVID-19 vaccine. He will not attend Pac-12 Media Day in Los Angeles next week.

Lorovich posted on his Twitter account: “The Pac-12 Conference requires full vaccination for all direct participants on next week’s Pac-12 Football Media Day, so I attended remotely and incredible for our football team and our program. Young man.

“I chose not to get the COVID-19 vaccine for personal reasons. I made my own decision, but respect that all individuals, including coaches, staff and student athletes, can get it on their own. My own decision on the COVID-19 vaccine. I will not comment further on my decision. “

Washington State University requires employees and students to be vaccinated because they are on campus, but tax exemptions can be granted for religious, personal, or medical reasons. It was unclear if Lorovich was exempt.

In a statement, Washington state athletic director Pat Chun said, “Director Lorovich and I have had multiple discussions about his decision not to vaccinate COVID-19. WSU has a vaccination obligation. However, there are policies and procedures that employees should follow. They are not vaccinated.

“As a department, we continue to educate student athletes, staff and coaches about the benefits of vaccination and do everything we can to protect the health and safety of our personnel.”

Washington Governor Jay Inslee helped with this topic and recommended Lorovich to be vaccinated.

According to the Seattle Times, Max Borghi and linebacker Jahadwoods will represent the Cougars directly on Tuesday’s Pac-12 Media Day.
