Smyrna, Georgia (CBS46) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified a man killed in a shooting involving police officers in Smyrna on Monday.
The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Robert Parks.The park died shortly after police responded to the report Hostage incident at an apartment on Old Concord Road.
Cobb County police said they had received several phone calls about the ammunition fired. Further investigation revealed that Parks had another man with his wrist tied. When police arrived at the scene, Parks brought the tied up man back into the apartment. Cobb County SWAT confirms that the victim appeared to be hostage.
SWAT and a crisis negotiator were called in, at which point SWAT police officers shot Parks. He died of an injury.
At a press conference held later that day, Sergeant Cobb County Police. Wayne Delk said police officers saw Parks wielding a knife and gun before the shooting.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with a life-threatening injury. One officer also suffered a life-threatening injury. He was treated and released.
GBI is expected to conduct an independent survey. Upon completion, it will be handed over to the Cobb County District Law Office for review.
