Spartanburg, South Carolina (WSPA) – A 15-year-old Upstate girl has experienced a lot over the past year and a half. Emma June Kent is fighting osteosarcoma. But she has one motto that has accomplished a lot.
“I always say it’s easier to be happy than sad,” Emma June Kent told us.
Emma June has felt a lot of joy and love over the last 18 months.
“Everyone was very kind and very kind,” Kent said.
She rang the bell to celebrate the end of chemotherapy near the end of 2020. Emma June was diagnosed with osteosarcoma earlier that year. It started with what was believed to be a sports-related injury.
However, shortly after the cry of happiness for ending chemotherapy, x-rays showed another tumor.
“I knew I had to amputate if I had a recurrence in my leg, so I knew I had to do it,” Kent said.
She said recovery was not easy. She can’t get a prosthesis until things get better. But despite the pain and difficulty faced by this young girl, you rarely see her without a smile.
“She was really great at keeping a positive attitude even when life was throwing her curve ball. She was the other kids on the oncology floor while we were in the hospital. “I continue to help,” said Jamie Kent, Emma June’s mother.
Emma June said she was eager to return to school and all the activities she loved:
“I decided not to go back to school until I was able to walk alone with my prosthesis,” Kent told us.
Emma June has just finished the next round of chemotherapy. Next is immunotherapy, which lasts for several weeks. But then June said he would finish treatments other than having to do a follow-up scan.
To help Emma June become more active, she was asked to be part of a foundation that donates athletic prostheses to her.
To support this cause, a fund-raising activity is being held at the end of August. It will take place on Saturday, August 21st at 6:30 pm at the Upward Star Center Turf Field.
