US Berry Global joins polypropylene recycling alliance

Berry Global has joined the Polypropylene Recycling Union, a recycling partnership aimed at increasing access to polypropylene recycling. This announcement extends Berry’s goal of strengthening its recycling infrastructure as part of its quest for a circular economy. Very Global is a US-based packaging and engineering products company.

As a cross-industry initiative, Berry joins the Steering Committee members Keurig Dr. Pepper, Braskem, NextGen Consortium, and the Wal-Mart Foundation, along with other members of the polypropylene value chain. The coalition provided $ 4.2 million in grants to 13 recycling facilities, positively impacting approximately 15 million US residents, nearly 6% of the US population. We are awarding monetary awards across the United States to increase polypropylene recovery by £ 13m annually.

Berry said in a media statement that the alliance is also supporting targeted consumer education efforts and infrastructure improvements.

This initiative is in line with Berry’s efforts to improve recycling on the curb side of polypropylene. Berry strategically targets both investments and partnerships to foster a recycling infrastructure. An example of this is a recent collaboration with the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Evansville, Indiana, where we have purchased and installed a new AMP Robotics Cortex high-speed robotics system for polypropylene sorting. The recovered material is used in berry products, but more importantly, learning from robots is valued and shared to enhance and promote polypropylene recycling.

“By expanding and modernizing our recycling infrastructure, we capture the economic value that is currently being lost and provide the recycled content we need to meet our commitments. It achieves a circular economy and becomes a natural resource. It is important to give multiple lives. ” Robert Flores, Vice President of Sustainability at Berry Said in a statement.
