Gunnison County, Colorado — The Little Blue Creek Canyon Project will close US Highway 50 in both directions for 24 hours between Mile Markers 123-127 from Tuesday, May 25 to 5:30 pm.
The roadway is completely closed in both directions and vehicles cannot pass through. It is located between Fitzpatrick Mesa and Blue Mesa, south of Morrow Point Reservoir and southeast of Cimarron, Colorado. A 24-hour closure is required to safely remove most of the rock. Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the project area.
“During regular activities related to rock works this afternoon, the crew discovered that a large rock formation was at risk. The rock formation is about 100 feet above the highway, at 1,000 tonnes. It seems that the roadway must be completely closed for the safety of the driver, “said Kathleen Wanatwitz, spokeswoman for the Little Blue Creek Canyon Project. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we strive to safely remove rock formations and create clear roads.”
Residents of 鏃: Access from Gunnison (east side) is possible with resident of 鏃 and Alpine Plateau Road, and traffic regulation is obligatory. A detour route is recommended.
