According to an Oracle Retail survey, shoppers are worried that supply chain and delivery delays will cause havoc on holidays, and in response, 52% of U.S. shoppers have started shopping on holidays. I plan to shop earlier than usual. A fifth plan to order more gifts in case some are delayed or canceled, which jumps to 44% for millennials.

Others are on the easier path, with 34% of people (especially 58% of baby boomers) saying they will buy more gift cards this year.

The survey surveyed 5,728 global consumers in September, including 512 in the United States. An Untold Insights survey asked consumers about pandemic shopping habits and holiday shopping plans. Open a free copy of the report.

Gift givers are worried that they may not be able to get the item or that it may take too long to arrive, leaving them with an empty box. Twenty-eight percent of respondents are concerned that the shortage will make the desired product more expensive, and 27% are concerned that the desired product is not available.

17% are worried that they will be disappointed because they will not receive the gifts their friends and family want. On the other hand, 16% are worried that their favorite holiday treats will not be available.

Many are worried that shipping times will not meet expectations and that arrivals may be delayed. To alleviate concerns, 65% of respondents say that detailed tracking of delivery status is very important.

Thirty-six percent of respondents say that they will decide who to order from in a short delivery time. 30% say they are indignant when shipping is delayed. A quarter are concerned that the gift will never arrive. 18% are willing to pay more to guarantee faster or guaranteed delivery.
